It’s happening in so many destinations. You can’t even have a reasonably good holiday in a popular city unless you go Jan-Feb. We just had a subpar experience in Italy and I agree that social media is to blame. I think I’ve entered my very chic road trip to beautiful sleepy villages phase of life.

TikTok's ruining of decent places and even truly awful places is chalked up as one of my to-write-about topics. The utter MADNESS of it all!

Thank you for this! x

Oh my goodness this is so true! I live in Paris well since January, but I’ve lived here before, and I so agree. Also, thank you for the excellent roundup of real recommendations.

As to special places in Paris that I adore the Merci Paris NEVER disappoints - their cafe had the best salads in town for lunch. Shakespear & Company bookstore is precious. Bijo Paris (bien concept) for Japanese beauty, cosmetics and personal care & Absolution Cosmetics store on rue des Vinaigriers for superb skin and bodycare for every age of womanhood. Predictably Angelina for hot chocolate worthy of your taste buds & Cedric Grolet for artform pastries that are image worthy too. Hoy Paris for staying, yoga and flowers. I can go on - but won't so not to give away too much in one go. Thank you for sharing as always Farrah. Heloise's cook book is worthy of mention too - as she kindly shared her Paris hot spots .)

Thank you so much! I just moved to Paris last month and looking forward to lots of exploring especially in spots away from the crowd.

If I was planning a trip to Paris I would be planning my outings there on your recommendations. Alas I am not planning to go to Paris.

Truth be told & full disclosure, I have never been on TikTok, nor would look to influencers for recommendations when it comes to truly special places to visit. Sponsored content is miles apart from places that people in the know are kind enough to share, like @davidleibovitz for example Also, walking around any city and discovering special corners is a source of endless pleasure.

Farrah I LOVED this post - so true! I always put so much pressure on myself to find the best spots and have a really good holiday and plan plan plan- but then I worry that I’m wasting time or going to the wrong spot, but I don’t wanna waste my precious time off, or money on a crap meal or place!

Separately - i’m going to New Orleans soon so please let me know if anyone has any recommendations!
