Have mercy in all directions. You will never regret this.

Don't talk yourself into the discount paper towels.

Boys in backwards baseball caps can be trusted from age 0-8, and again from 55-110.

'The most interesting person at the party is always the first to leave' - yes! Not just a great excuse to tell yourself when desperate to make a swift exit, but totally true. I once noticed someone dissappear into the night at an event after winning the top award of the evening and thought it was incredibly chic and cool.

Really enjoyed this and looking forward to reading more.

I mainly leave early to avoid making a fool of myself later on. But yes, moral of story: the minute you see someone you need/want to speak to- DO IT!

Love this list Farrah - some home truths there - especially 1, 2, 6, 7 and that last one is my internal mantra whenever I'm doing public speaking "no one really cares or is really even listening". It totally works. Have to disagree with the metabolism one though!

Same! I’ve always had a fast metabolism and people think I just don’t like food lol

If anyone says they just have a ‘fast metabolism’ they don’t eat? Rubbish! I’m 60, can still fit into clothes I wore in my twenties, eat like a horse (particularly the things I shouldn’t) and am not an exercise/gym fanatic

You are the exception, lucky you.

I agree with the major part of the points, but I have to say that my best friend she is always thin even if she eats a lot when we was at school she started the day with: chips, a Nutella sandwich, a coke at half morning she eat a salami sandwich like snack, for lunch a big dish of pasta other snack like chocolates bar, candies etc now she is 37 after 3 kids she still is thin she never had sports. Me still struggling with diet even if I eat well. for the last point sometimes it’s true but what u are talking about it’s the big difference, like at work when they told u to go to follow a course about security at work my brain stop working because I get bored soon, but if I go to and event that I was waiting for I don’t miss a word.

I love your writing - one question, when you say “conversations free from reprisal and judgement,” I understand why people would be shy away from reprisal, but judgement implies thoughtfulness - the judgement might or might not be what you want to hear, but at least the reply should be thoughtful - example: I judged your writing when I said, “I love your writing.”

I’ve been reading Glennon Doyle recently and a line really stuck with me, “The braver I am, the luckier I get”. I can’t stop thinking about this and it seems to be spurring me on. I plan to write about what this really means after I’ve thought about it a little more.

Love this post and I’ve just subscribed. Can’t wait to read more!

It’s sort of interesting to think about all the ways these rules are not true.

That last one ..... that’s the hardest part about writing for me. I said last night that I feel like I’ve been talking to myself (was an only child) and then I’ve been alone a lot up until 40.

I realized maybe being more raw in what I share in this space can’t hurt and even if it seems like no one’s reading, or rather few bother to say they are, a few will resonate with your struggles, value your advice and appreciate what you have to say.

I'm so glad I found you! My newsletter is doing okay, but I still don't know what to write about. No one knows what to expect!

I've created 4 essays about my being members of 5 church denominations. The fourth is still a first draft. The bottom line? I don't go to church anymore because my beliefs don't match any of the 5. But my sweetie of 52 years has started a seminary path to be a lay pastor.

I'm going to be a Presbyterian Pastor's wife.

That's me at 74.

Hugs,

Linda

“ The secret to public speaking is to realise that no one is paying attention to a word you’re saying..they’re too busy thinking about themselves” - so very true.

Thank you for this list - looking forward to your next post!
