Why fashion weeks are never about the clothes
How a scroll through my photo library reveals a world of status jostling, insecurity and wardrobe nightmares

I meant to send you a completely different newsletter today. I’ve rounded up the best cosy pubs across the country that I wanted to share with you. That’s because here in the UK it’s all misty and mellow. Apples are falling from the trees, flannel PJs have been procured and thoughts turn to apple crumbles, pints and short crust pie tops. So you’ll get that in a few weeks time.
You see, in trying to locate all the pictures of said pubs I got distracted. Largely by all the behind-the-scenes pictures I have taken over the years when I used to attend the various fashion weeks around the world. There are pictures of ridiculous hotel rooms, ridiculous outfits and lots of ridiculous people. (You’ll see what I mean when you read on). Anyway, given the bi-annual fashion weeks have just come to a close, I thought it might be more fitting- and interesting, to share some of those pictures and stories with you. Because here’s the thing I think is really worth knowing about fashion week- it’s almost never about the fashion. Behind the clothes is a tale of status trumping, social anxiety and, of course, unimaginable luxury. This is the stuff that doesn’t make it onto the style pages of the newspapers, or Vogue.com.
