A younger friend of mine was having a hard time recently, so I sent her a quote by a poet who was alive like a billion years ago, thinking it would help.
Thanks! No help whatsoever, but it’s the thought…
Then she sent me several different emojis which I think meant that she found it funny.
I felt bad.
But what is genuinely helpful to other people? Therapy, sure. The right friends with the right drinks at the right time. Also helpful. Tough love from someone who’s been there and who you respect enough to take it from. Also very good.
But honestly? The best advice I’ve ever had has been little nuggets gleaned from people a lot smarter than me, as well as just years of living.
So anyway, here are those little nuggets. From me to you. And as ever, if you’ve got better stuff to put out there (and I know you have) then leave them in the comments as always.
So anyway, things I wish I’d know a lot sooner…
