The surprising art of the 'holiday wardrobe'
I spent ten years as a magazine editor telling other people what to wear on holiday. Here's what I've learned actually works...

I packed for our annual summer holiday last week. It’s always a bit of a palaver in our household, because every summer holiday involves driving across the continent. This means we must cram into a five seater car:
2 middle age adults
2 obese dogs
Various dog paraphernalia (blankets, bowls, a selection of toys)
17 identical ’man’ T-shirts for my husband, who insists he still doesn’t have enough
One small hold-all for yours truly
I always laugh at the phrase ‘hold-all’ since there’s very little a 65cm by 40 cm satchel-on-wheels can actually accommodate. What this has meant is that over the last decade I have had to get clever. I’m lucky. I edited magazines for many years. That meant travelling with some of the best fashion editors in the world. And I can tell you this much- they hardly take anything with them. Instead what they do is wear the same thing year in, year out. They are clever with styling. They understand which fabrics work in the sun and which don’t. They know how small a dress can pack down and whether a sandal will last a season or a lifetime. I have learned a lot from these women.
So below is exactly what I have learned. These are the pieces I have with me on holiday right now. Plus the styling tips that will elevate every single piece. I will share with you the brands insiders turn to every summer as well as a life-changing lipstick that I MUST share with you.
