The best mini-break destination in Europe
It's as grand as Paris, as beautiful as Florence and much safer than Barcelona. Here's everywhere we went, everything we bought and everything I think is worth knowing about Vienna
Blown away. That’s how I feel about Vienna. My husband and I just got back last week, and gosh, where to start….
To begin with it’s pretty. Prettier than most cities have a right to be actually. There’s no dirt, no rubbish. There’s no one especially sketchy hanging about the streets at night.
Then there’s the food. Strudel! Kaiserschmarrn! Sacher torte (Austrians are big on cake). Wiener Schnitzel. I could go on..and I will below.
But mainly Vienna is a place of culture. Schubert was born here. Mozart died here. Modernism was pretty much born in the art schools of Vienna, whilst Freud came up with the idea that most men’s problems could be put down to the fact they simply wanted to seduce their own mother on 19 Bergasse.
Personally I think it’s an ideal place for a long weekend, but a week in Vienna would be equally blissful.
In case you’re thinking of heading that way this year I thought i’d share our exact itinerary, as well as all the places I would skip. (Because few travel guides actually tell you that which I find deeply frustrating.)
So here’s goes…
And also whilst I have you, remember that this week I launched my brand new Gold Tier Membership. This allows you access to TWO brand new writing courses twice a year. They are 90 minutes long and will be recorded so anyone on any time zone can take part. Limited numbers for this one however as I’d like to keep groups small. Find out more here.
