I want a flower-filled garden- but where do I start?
I'm trying something new: ask me a question and I'll answer it for you. This week, one reader needs urgent garden advice
It occurred to me the other day that I should probably experiment a bit more with this Substack. For almost three years (THREE! *wipes brow*) I’ve written this newsletter every Sunday. And whilst that’s great and many of you seem to like it, I wondered whether it might be nice to have shorter notes from me in the week, as well as the longer Sunday read.
As more and more people use the Substack app to read on-the-go I figured sometimes it’s nice to have a little, short read to accompany you as you wait for your bus/train/supermarket shopping to be scanned. So in that vein I’m trying something a bit different: me answering questions from you!
So all you have to do is ask a question in my Private Chat channel. If your question is chosen then I’ll answer it. Easy. (By the way there are so many questions and answers in the channel. Fast becoming my favourite place to get restaurant and hotel recommendations). You can also drop questions in the comments below if Chat frightens you.
As my chat channel is for paid subscribers only do make sure you sign up to become a paid subscriber to take part AND get so many more benefits like access to my writing groups, invites to events, videos, personal pictures etc... All of which you can find out about by clicking here:
And so to lovely
who asked today how she gets a bumper harvest of flowers and what to grow now.A: Basically now is the best time of the year to get excited about flowers for next year- delayed gratification is all part of the process I’m afraid. That’s because now is the time to order your spring bulbs, which frankly is the most exciting time of my year.
A word of warning though- I would order now (as in THIS week) as I have just started doing my order of tulips, narcissi and hyacinths and many of the rarer varieties that I like have sold out.
So anyway, here’s some of what I’ve ordered for my cutting garden for next year- as well as a super easy planting scheme that never lets me down.
