How stylish women dress for winter
The simple additions (and tricks) to create a perfect autumn/winter wardrobe
I love autumn/winter dressing. I love layering, and big chunky boots and those Alpine sweaters that make you look like a Scandi noir detective. But it can be a costly business, fraught with over consumption and gilets that are worn only once. Now whilst I don’t profess to be an expert in dressing, there are some rules I’ve picked up along the way that I suspect are worth sharing. These are rules picked up from years working with exceptional stylists, many seasons sat on the FROW at fashion weeks and a general obsession with how other women put themselves together. So this guide is mainly a mash-up of all of that, plus what I’ve bought and am buying. Remember, I don’t use affiliate links and am rarely, if ever gifted clothes, so you know this stuff is from the heart and soul. I hope it’s helpful. I hope you love some of the stuff I’ve fallen in love with too and I hope this guide inspires rather than induces a mad shopping frenzy.
Enjoy!
Decide how you want to look
It pays to have some idea of how you want to look for a start. If you don’t have an image in mind you can get distracted by things like ‘directional’ shirts and shoes with a heel that looks like an earthworm. (I have been distracted by both in my time). You can get super high-tech with how you create an autumn/winter wardrobe, but honestly, life is too short to be creating Excel sheets about shorts and pants. Just use Pinterest like I do. I pin images of women whose style I admire and go back to it every now and then to figure out what exactly it is I like about their style. If you don’t know where to start then here are some names I like.
