How I built Things Worth Knowing
What started as a hobby has grown into a community and a business worth over $90k. Join me as I explain exactly how I did it...
Firstly- thank you, thank you, thank you! When I started this Substack back in January 2022, the plan/dream was to reach 1000 paid subscribers within 2 years. Today I reached that goal. Much of that success is down to you. And for that, I can’t thank you enough.
Trust me when I tell you that it’s a devastating/sick-inducing thing to get a writer to ask their audience to pay for their work. I felt ill with nerves when I first mooted the idea that some of my work would be behind a self-imposed paywall. But I asked and many of you came out to support the work I do here. I hope it feels worthwhile to you. I know it has allowed me the time to write and share my most honest and personal work right here.
I have always believed the best way to share the love is to be open about your success- to show the lows, as much as the highs. (And if you’re interested in my CV of everything I failed at, you can read that here)
So next Monday, October 2nd at 6.30pm BST, I’m going to be running a little informal class where I’ll explain to you exactly how I built Things Worth Knowing. There’s not an exact science to it, but there are lots of learnings; certainly things I wish I’d known when I was starting out.
So come along, bring your notepads, bring your dinner and most of all bring your questions as I’ll be doing a nice Ask Me Anything at the end.
This class is only open to my paid subscribers however as it is part of my on-going writers group. (All are welcome btw- we meet virtually on the the last Sunday of every month). If you fancy joining however then just make sure you are a paid subscriber by tomorrow evening when I will be sending out the link to join.
You can also drop specific questions in the comments below and I’ll make sure I cover them all off. That way, this will (hopefully) feel like a bespoke course just for you!
Also if this feels too granular for you and you want more of a general ‘Introduction to Substack’ then worry not. I run a free one every few months. You can follow me on Instagram to find out when the next one is.
And if you fancy starting your very own Substack and joining those of us who write and create here then you can use this link to do so:
Okay, that’s enough from em. Remember to drop any questions you want answering below. And see yo there!
