Do you want to write for Things Worth Knowing?
And get paid for it? Plus some exciting new dates for your diary!
When I first launched Things Worth Knowing almost 18 months ago the idea was always to have other writers on here. And so from time to time I have invited other journalists, such as the wonderful Ellen Burney and the indomitable Iona Italia onto here to share their stories. (If you haven’t read Iona’s brutal but stunning piece: Can we ever make peace with losing our looks? then you must).
I’ve been able to do this due to the support I have received from paid subscribers over the many months I have been writing. As well as allowing me time to sit down and write (and believe me, it takes almost an entire Saturday to write the columns I do for everyone) your support means I am now in a position to pay others. Last month I published the wining entry to our first ever writing competition, won by Natalie Carmichael, which you can read here. This was only made possible by YOU. But as I sat there reading through the almost 100 different entries that were submitted, it occurred to me that there are so many great writers on this platform who deserve to be given a bigger platform.
Getting commissioned by a national magazine, broadsheet paper or a well-know digital brand is tough. Often a new writer can be passed over simply because they are not a ‘name’ or because the editor is unwilling to take a risk with someone new. So where does that leave you if you have no networks or have never been a published writer? Or maybe you are a published writer but are disillusioned with traditional media where there is less and less opportunity to write as magazines becomes ever slimmer and share content across numerous global editions.
And so from today I am launching something I’m calling PITCH ME. This is basically a way for YOU to directly pitch ME your ideas. I will pay every published piece £200 and work with you as your editor. Your piece will go out to almost 22,000 readers and if you have a Substack I’ll make sure we surface that too.
Absolutely anyone can pitch me an idea. Here’s how it’s going to work (see below).
As well as this I’m putting in some some writing workshop days. One will be a small, very granular Launch your Substack seminar (I’ll be announcing this is a different post soon)where I share everything I have learned (if you want a much broader overview I am doing a FREE workshop on Set 11th, details on my Instagram). On top of that, after the success of last month’s Writing Group where we spent the full hour in ‘salon’ mode talking about struggles we were having with our writing or in many cases, our Substacks, we will be doing this again. This is YOUR chance to network with others who may be at the same point in their writing/Substack journey as you, so a great place to meet likeminded people and maybe find a writing buddy.
Details for everything below. See you there!
