How difficult are A-List celebrities to deal with? Do you really get sent designer handbags in the post? And are glossy magazines and the culture they endorsed really over?
Join me as I sit down with founding editor-in-chief of Glamour UK, Jo Elvin to discuss all this and so much more.
This is a rare, LIVE, conversation with one of the most famous glossy magazine editors around. Jo is a tour de force- funny, frank and hugely helpful when it comes to dishing out advice to those just getting started. So grab a drink, settle back and tune in via Zoom as Jo and I discuss all things magazines, including how to move on from them and what's next in the world of publishing.
For those of you who don’t know Jo, she is one of the UK’s most famous editors, having launched Glamour magazine in the UK where it remained the country’s best-selling magazine for over a decade. (Disclaimer: Jo was also my boss when I worked at Glamour as a clueless 27-year old deputy features editor). Jo has also edited Sugar magazine and latterly YOU magazine, one of the world’s biggest Sunday supplements. Last year however, Jo walked away from her glittering career as an editor to take up the role as CEO of Children With Cancer UK. She also presents Palace Confidential and writes the brilliant Substack, My Goodness with Jo Elvin. (For those asking , yes I will upload this conversation for paid subscribers a few days later)
Remember founding members get to submit questions that I will ask on their behalf- simply email me as usual. (You can find out about founding membership here: founding membership info)
For everyone else this is sadly only for paid subscribers, but you can subscribe for just £6 a month or £50 a year. Which is basically just over £1 a week. The same price as, well, not much nowadays. Maybe a Snickers bar? For this I give you access to HEAPS of stuff (writing courses, prompts, Ask Me Anything, entry into my CHAT group) but more crucially you support the life of this Substack. You also get invited into Learning Hours like this one, which is basically an excuse to spend an hour with an interesting person.
If this sounds up your street then you can upgrade your membership right here. I thank you in advance. Oh and if you know someone who would love to join you can share that too- button below!
Paid subscribers- simply join us at 7pm UK time on Thursday. All details and the link to join are below.
See you then
